Wishing Washing Line

The Wishing Washing Line is a FaNs creation and is a simple but very effective way of joining the community with their local Care Homes, enabling them to become good FaNs (Friends and Neighbours), making a positive difference. The Wishing Washing Lines have now been set up in several stores and are very successful indeed.

Residents of the Care Homes write a simple wish they would like granted and this wish is added to the washing line in their local store.

The idea is to encourage shoppers and staff members alike to read the wishes and if they find an interest shared with a like-minded older person, or can grant a very simple wish, they contact the relevant care home and arrange for the wish to be granted.

Some older people living in care homes may not have access to the community, regular visitors or any visitors at all, so it is wonderful to see their wishes being granted, their happy, smiling faces and to see the wonderful difference the connection with the community makes to them.

It’s as straightforward as that. Making small wishes come true one at a time!

Here is a small selection of the wishes that were added to the Wishing Washing Lines:

How you can make it count

Our FaNs come in all shapes and sizes and range from six year old school children who paint pictures for our care homes to young mums living in the local area, as well as a League One football club or our county’s fire and rescue service.

It’s the small gestures that can produce the biggest impact, which is why we’re inviting people to get involved in a way that suits them and their busy schedule. We know that making every moment count doesn’t have to mean making a huge commitment of time or a grand gesture – treasured moments can be really small. And that’s what we’re here to facilitate.

Simply fill out our short registration form and download our leaflet that highlights how you can get involved in a way that suits you.
