Health Education East of England is a wonderful FaN of Cheviot Nursing Home in Colchester. Following a successful knit and natter session, the Essex Workforce Partnership (EWP) organised two art classes for residents at the Home. Many of the residents have suffered strokes or have dementia, they were supported to make, paint and varnish clay hanging decorations for their rooms. Laura Brookes, Partnership Development Officer for EWP say’s ‘Residents enjoyed learning how to mould, decorate and create texture and pattern in the clay, they were very engaged in this fun activity and particularly enjoyed talking with the apprentices, Charley and Charlotte who proved they are absolute naturals, working one-to-one with the residents.’
For many residents this was their first experience of using clay and they really enjoyed playing with the medium, even those who don’t usually take part in group activities were very engaged, residents were thrilled with the results and have requested that EWP return soon to run a similar session.
Essex Workforce Partnership hope to lead a Christmas decoration making workshop at Cheviot in the near future.
