Congratulations to Lindsey Strange, Cultural Projects Manager at Essex County Council (ECC) and Activity Co-ordinators from Ghyll Grove Residential Home in Basildon who joined together to help residents create some beautiful pieces of artwork.

The four canvases created were inspired by the different river names of the four individual houses at Ghyll Grove i.e. Thames, Chelmer, Kennet and Medway. Button letters were shaped by the residents and stuck onto the canvas. Lindsey said ‘ I just sketched out different scenes and introduced each participating resident to the joys of dabbing paint, (also known as ‘impressionist style’) to the canvas, which all of them were able to do’.

ECC allows staff to take two days paid leave each year to volunteer for a good cause. Lindsey chose to offer her volunteer days to her local care home and as a result the residents and staff benefited tremendously.  Lindsey say’s ‘I had an amazing time, I learnt so much from the Activity Co-ordinators and the residents, it was a joy’
